Unlocking the Secrets of Konxari!

I've just produced a new video: Unlocking the Secrets of Konxari. Please check it out! It's based on the ghost-hunting card set produced by The IRM Foundation, which I've been hired to be the official spokesperson for.

The video explores the paranormal world of Konxari, which gives one the opportunity to communicate with those on the other side. Hear experts from around the world discussing the ancient origins, and how the cards are used today.

Unlocking the Secrets of KONXARI
<lj-embed id="30" />

These cards are really creepy-cool. Seriously. I wouldn't be a part of this if it wasn't something I'd back all the way.

You can always find out more about Konxari, including how to get your own set of cards at:

www.Konxari.com

MY ONLINE HOMES

With the advent of relentless social networking websites that keep popping up, I thought I'd take the time to give you an update on where you can find me, in case you're looking.

MattBusch.com - First and foremost, this will always be your number one source for all things Planetmatt. If you ever want the skinny on me or projects I'm involved with, this is the first place to get the full scoop. Galleries, videos, news, the whole bit. Check out the official site HERE.

MySpace - I update this more than any of the social networking sites. Most of the videos are on MySpaceTV and the photo and art galleries are pretty extensive, too. Be sure to add me as a friend HERE.

LiveJournal - This is the primary site that I use for blogging. Add me to your friends' list and read about what I've been up to. This is the only place you'll see rants about stuff other than work, though there's planet of that, too. Check it, HERE.

FaceBook - I don't see what the fuss is about FaceBook. I thought MySpace was just fine. Well, I've suddenly reconnected with everyone from high school, too, so if you're on, add a brutha HERE.

Twitter - As if these sites aren't streamlined enough, you can see what I'm doing right now and follow me at my Twitter Suite right HERE.

YouTube - Honestly, from what I can tell, YouTube's video quality is far less than MySpaceTV and even FaceBook's video players. But- I do have a lot of rare videos at my YouTube Channel, so check it and subscribe HERE.

DeviantArt - I'm not on there often, as I find the site complicated and have a hard time getting basic functions to work. But, for those that dig it, you can watch and favourite some of my art HERE.

German Website - Don't forget to check out my official German web site, MattBusch.de. Even if you can't read it (I can't either) you may enjoy another look at my work. There are some exclusives, too. Check it HERE.

LUCASFILM AUCTIONS BUSCH ART TO HELP AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS!

In an effort to help the Australian Red Cross aid the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, Lucasfilm is auctioning off an extremely limited print illustrated by Matt Busch. The print being auctioned is titled "Evolution of the Empire" and was previously sold exclusively in London at Celebration Europe in 2007.

The art features all of the clone troopers and stormtroopers from all six movies of the STAR WARS saga. These are over-sized lithographs, not to be confused with the smaller 24" posters that were also produced. They originally sold for approx. $300 U.S. dollars then, and of course it's virtually impossible to get one of these now. As it is, there are only 66 of these numberes and embossed prints in existence!

Lucasfilm is graciously offering this from their collection for a great cause. You can bid on the print via Ebay right HERE!
MAGICK TABOO PODCASTS FEATURE MWAH TALKIN' KONXARI CARDS...

Here's two podcast episodes I did at the MAGICK TABOO Studios a week or so ago. These are a hoot, and quite interesting, but lengthy, so I'd suggest playing these in the background when you're multitasking on you're PC / Mac... Here's the skinny:

The Pagan / Paranormal Podcast called MAGICK TABOO has devoted two entire episodes to discussion on Konxari Cards! Hosted by Deo and Ambrosia, Konxari spokesperson Matt Busch and Konxari game advisior R. Wold Baldassarro stopped by the studio for the in-depth conversation.

Episode 86 begins with some quick news, then dives right Busch and Wolf talking everything Konxari Cards- exactly what they are, how to communicate with the deceased, and how to help them find resolution and rest in peace. To listen, Right click and Save Target HERE.

Episode 87 begins with Matt Busch doing a Konxari reading live in the studio. Is the Magick Taboo studio haunted? The results are incredible! Deo also tries his hand at using Konxari Cards in Tarot fashion. To listen, Right click and Save Target HERE.

You can listen to more episodes at www.MagickTaboo.com.

Don't forget, you can always learn everything Konxari at the official website, www.konxari.com.

And, don't forget to add Konxari as a friend on MySpace at www.MySpace.com/Konxari.

Dude- I'm the spokesperson for KONXARI CARDS!

One of the deals I've has been cooking up in the last couple months is to take the reins of an incredible new paranormal deck of cards called Konxari, signing on as the official spokesperson. This may seem like an odd side of the fence for me to get involved in, but when you see how cool these cards are, you'll know why! Check them out at the offcial site, www.konxari.com.

Here's the Press Release:

ARTIST MATT BUSCH NAMED SPOKESPERSON FOR KONXARI CARDS

NEW YORK, NY-- The IRM Foundation has announced that the official spokesperson for Konxari Cards is pop culture artist extraordinaire, Matt Busch. Mostly know for his work on Hollywood properties, Busch has made a nitch in the fandom world with his outgoing presence with zany video tutorials that have exploded on the web and DVD. Says Busch, "I normally would never be interested in being a spokesperson for someone else's product, but Konxari Cards are just way too creepy cool."

Described as a cross between Tarot Cards and a Ouija Board, the Konxari is sure to take fans and paranormal enthusiasts by storm, allegedly giving people the ability to communicate with the 'other side'. Pronounced kon-zar-ee, the cards are said to have been created by the ancients as a form of Cartomancy. Now Konxari is offered as a set of 88 playing cards; a handy tool for those looking for a ghost hunt, séance, or spooked-out slumber party. The game is designed for 2 or more players, where after flipping a certain number of cards, the photos, symbols, and letters are assessed and interpreted as a message from the spirit world. The idea is to find ways to help agitated souls seeking resolution, so they can finally rest in peace and leave you alone.

The supernatural aside, Konxari Cards boast an incredible collection of award-winning photographer Paul Michael Kane's otherworldly images. Despite the fact that many of the photos appear to show impossible or metaphysical imagery, Kane swears that no PhotoShop was used. "The decision was made early on to let the images be subtle and not do any clichéd digital effects." comments Kane, "While I did use a number of physical slight-of-hand or in-camera tricks, there is no digital slicing, layers, or alterations of any kind." Knowing this makes the photos all the more impressive, and unsettling.

While spokesperson Busch is recognized for his work with mainstream properties like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Witchblade, he is quick to show his darker side. States Busch, "I have always been obsessed with the paranormal. I'm as skeptical as anyone, but I'm fascinated with the unknown." In 2001, Busch wrote an illustrated a comic book, Alizarin's Jounal, for Avatar Press; a story in which a paranormal investigator seeks answers from beyond. In 2006, Busch released his first feature length movie on DVD, Conjure, which was distributed by Razor Digital. The low-budget movie was a supernatural thriller and became the highest preselling movie of all time, according to HorrorMovies.com.

Currently, Busch gets to utilize the Konxari himself, being an adjunct Paranormal Investigator for P.R.I.S.M., the Paranormal Research and Informational Society of Michigan. "The cards are really unique, creepy, and will provide a lifetime of entertainment. In addition to being an incredible asset to your ghost-hunting experience, you'll never get tired of getting spooked by the messages you receive." Says Busch, "And with the wavering economy, a complete game with everything you need for only fifteen bucks is a steal." While the card game is sure to flourish in pop culture's already-huge love affair with all things ghost-hunting, you can expect to see Konxari Cards as the next household card game right next to Magic: The Gathering and Uno.

To view more images and learn more about Konxari, check out the official site:
www.konxari.com

# # #

How to Draw STAR WARS: Storyboards!

STAR WARS Artist Matt Busch continues his series- this time exploring the preproduction world of storyboarding. As Busch dons the fedora for another chapter of the ongoing Indiana Jones parody, you'll see how storyboarding and previsualization can help build the framework for movies, television, video games, music videos, and more.

How to Draw STAR WARS!
ON VACATION

Hard to believe, isn't it? Sure, I've had the pleasure of traveling to some really nice places, but it's always been work-related. And yes, I always have fun on the road (See ILLUSTRATION NATION) but I'm usually on a business mission, so here I am finally taking a dream vacation. Somewhere tropical... A nice all-inclusive resort where Alley and I can be pampered for an entire week... A little place called CANCUN, MEXICO Baby!

My first REAL vacation! An entire week with no work. I'm actually a little nervous. Like, if I don't have anything in front of me to be productive, like, I might start doing caricatures of other guests on the beach or something. But I think it'll be good for me...

White sand. Crystal blue water. Non-stop margaritas. Non-stop food. Non-stop dessert. Personal massages. Exotic shopping. Mayan ruin tours. Scuba. Naps under the sun. Dancing the night away. And a New Year's Eve on the beach under a Mexican Moon. Yeah... I've earned this.

So I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year now, since I won't be back until next week. But I also wanted to take the time to reflect on 2008 and look ahead to 2009. It's kind of a self-indulgent thing that sometimes families and business do to let everyone know what they've been up to at-a-glance. I always enjoy reading these, but if you don't, have a Happy New Year and click somewhere else. Otherwise, here's my year:

January 2008 started with a bang, as my web designer (Paul Michael Kane) and I kicked it off with a brand new version of MattBusch.com. If you haven't been there in a while, you should. Lots to see and do. I also illustrated the cover to a book called WALT DISNEY: The American Dreamer, and wrote a 12 page article for ART SCENE INTERNATIONAL Magazine, detailing how I illustrated the STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH Style D One Sheet Movie Poster. As well, I returned to teaching (I'm a professor at Macomb College) after a year-long hiatus.

Much of February and March was spent illustrating trading cards and sketch cards based on the TV show HEROES, LORD OF THE RINGS Masterpieces 2 and INDIANA JONES Heritage sets. The first of 7 brand new Season 2 How To Draw STAR WARS episodes were released Online. It was also announced that Tobey Maguire would be starring in the upcoming movie AFTERBURN, based on a comic book that I illustrate all the covers for.

In April and May I started a 3 part How To Draw Manga tutorial series for StarWars.com. The <http://www.mattbusch.com/rotj.htm">25th Anniversary poster I illustrated for RETURN OF THE JEDI</a> was also released, and I was a guest on the White Zombie episode of the TV show NIGHTMARE SINEMA.

In June, as new episodes of How To Draw STAR WARS were continually released, I also made a new video showing how I illustrate covers for AFTERBURN, and I was a guest speaker at the Detroit Windsor International Film Festival.

July was easily the biggest month in the history of, well... Me. My new Artbook, THE WORLDS FO MATT BUSCH was released, to which I also produced a parody Infomercial for. Volume 2 of YOU CAN DRAW STAR WARS was released on DVD. I was a Featured Special Guest at Comic-Con International in San Diego. And, um, oh yeah- I WENT TO JAPAN! What an incredible experience that was!

In August, Version 2.0 of my official German Website was released. I was also a guest on the Canadian TV show The COMIC BOOK SYNDICATE, and my art was licensed for usage for the SIMS video game.

September and October were spent putting the final touches on my documentary, but I also went to Texas to sign the CLONE WARS poster I illustrated, based on the new STAR WARS CARTOON movie / TV Show.

In November, I became the worlds first 501st Honorary Member to get their armor- becoming an actual Stormtrooper: TK3477! It's also when ILLUSTRATION NATION made it's theatrical debut, which you can expect to see on DVD at some point next year.

This month, a STAR WARS character I somewhat created and was named after me was turned into an action figure from Hasbro! Currently on my desk, a plethora of art for HARD ROCK CAFE.

Phew. Exhausting. I guess I do need a vacation.

Anyway, I'm outta here. See y'all next year. Have a safe holiday and may 2009 be fun and prospurous for us all. We've got some new leadership and all kinds of changes and sacrifices to make. Let's hope that things are done going down and can bounce back up for a change.

Peace, Love, and Energy Drinks,

Matt!

New STAR WARS Figure named after Matt Busch??!

Haha! Crazy...

December 15th, 2008
HASBRO RELEASES NEW STAR WARS ACTION FIGURE NAMED AFTER MATT BUSCH!

Hasbro, the official licensee for STAR WARS toys, has released a new "Droid Factory" collection of action figures, where collecting six figures gives you six extra pieces to create an all-new "Build-a-Droid" figure. The new series lets you build MB-RA-7, a character somewhat created by and named after artist Matt Busch.

After the first STAR WARS film was released in 1977, Kenner (a subsidiary of Hasbro) released "Death Star Droid", a chrome protocol-type droid which was later named as an RA-7 droid. Comments Busch, "The Death Star Droid as seen in the movie is actually black, though a memorable chrome RA-7 droid communicates with R2-D2 in the Jawa Sandcrawler."

Fast forward to 1998, almost a decade before the book You Can Draw STAR WARS was released, Busch was the regular writer and artist of the "How to Draw STAR WARS" articles for STAR WARS KIDS Magazine. "To help make these tutorials fun for kids, I wrote and illustrated them as if a droid was teaching you. I always loved the look of the RA-7 droid, and so, to give this fictional teacher an identity, I simply tagged on my initials, making him MB-RA-7."

Over the course of two years, every issue of STAR WARS KIDS featured a drawing tutorial, lead by MB-RA-7. Now you can build your own MB-RA-7, by collecting the new wave of "Build-a-Droid" STAR WARS figures, which includes General Grievous, Bail Organa, and FX-6! Hasbro STAR WARS figures can be found in any store that sells toys.

Yes! I am now a Stormtrooper!

I've become the world's first Honorary Member of the 501st Legion of Stormtroopers to get his armor! The 501st, in case you didn't know, is a worldwide community of fans that costume as collectors, fundraisers, volunteers, and doing charity work.

I was inducted as an Honorary Member of the 501st in 2006 by Jay Shimko of the Great Lakes Garrison. Other Honorary Members include many notable STAR WARS actors, artists and writers behind-the-scenes, as well as celebrities like Kristen Bell, Seth Green, Kevin Smith, "Weird Al", Yankovic, the band No Doubt, and George Lucas himself.

While I'm the first to have completed TK trooper armor and be registered, several other honorary members are on their way. Col. Anthony Toledo, the master drill instructor for the 2007 Rose Parade, has an Imperial officer costume, but no armor yet. Author Karen Traviss is working on Clonetrooper Armor. Actor Jeremy Bullock was given a full set of Boba Fett armor, but he hasn't joined the Legion yet. Author Timothy Zahn is also doing an Imperial Officer, too.

My ID in the 501st is TK-3477. Thanks go out to the incredible amount of help I got from Terrell Reber, TK-1787 of the Great Lakes Garrison. The armor was made of vacuum formed plastic, then trimmed, assembled with E-6000 glue, velcroed and riveted, sanded, painted with high performance enamel gloss white, detailed, and strapped together with velcro, elastic, and nylon straps. Other folks that helped out were Tony Krewson (TK-4063) for the blaster, Wyatt Stevens (TK-4205) for the undersuit top with neckseal, Brooke Merva (TD-1148) for the belt, and Steve Brejnak (TD-465) for strapping up the armor.

And no, I'm not too short for being a stormtrooper, thank you. :)

Texan Peeps- come rock out this weekend!

I'm a guest at the STAR WARS FAN DAYS II show in Plano, Texas, Saturday and Sunday at the Plano Convention Center.

Wanna nab the above CLONE WARS poster I did? For FREE? Be one of the first 500 through the door and the fine folks running the show will give you one!

In addition, I'll be doing sketch cards that the show produced specifically for this weekend. Mind you- these will be 30 second sketches, and characters of my choice, but these will be free as well. Many of the characters are impossible for me to draw in 30 seconds, so sorry ahead of time for not drawing C-3PO. Please keep in mind that these are FREE!

I'll also have books, posters, DVDs and even original art on display and for purchase. Don't miss this show! More info HERE! See you this weekend!

Best IM Interview... EVAR!

Did a fun interview with THE DETROITER a while back. It's always nice when the questions are off the wall. People can only take me delivering the same story about how I broke into drawing STAR WARS so many times.

The convo ensues HERE. Enjoy.

:)
